Lock-up Garages as Storage Units

When searching for suitable storage space for their personal possessions & belongings, very few people tend to consider the suitability, benefits and virtues that a lock-up garage could potentially provide as a storage unit.

A proportion of those that do are then put off by the stereotypical image that lock-up garages may conjure up, for example being tucked away out of sight and prone to being broken into. In addition, they may have a mental picture of dingy, semi-derelict & neglected garages with peeling paintwork, leaking roofs, and doors & walls covered in graffiti.

We are proud to say that our lock-up garages could not be further removed from this misconception and could well prove to be an extremely viable and cost-effective solution for your current storage needs because, amongst other things, we believe they provide ...

Value for money : Plenty of space : 24/7 availability : Easy access : Peace of mind

In addition, all our lock-up units are clean, tidy and very well maintained, with approximately 90%-95% of our existing tenants using their garages purely for storage space.

The reasons for this are many and varied, but hopefully the following will provide some insight as to why the vast majority of our tenants tend to use their lock-up garages in this manner:

Value for money

This is certainly one of the main criterion when looking to rent storage space for either the short, medium or long-term.

Bearing in mind the typical size of one of our lock-up garages (almost 1,000 cubic feet of space), we believe that at our current price they represent extremely good value for money; even more so when you consider that there are no additional charges.

Usable & versatile storage space

As a guide our garages typically measure 16 feet by 8 feet (5 metres by 2.5 metres), which equates to approximately 130 square feet / 850 cubic feet (12.5 square metres / 25 cubic metres) of very usable and extremely versatile storage space.

To give you some idea of how large this space actually is we have, in the past, had people store the whole contents of their home in one of our garages prior to them going off to work abroad for many months.

Peace of mind

All of our lock-up garages/storage units are located in residential areas and are either directly overlooked by numerous privately owned properties or are enclosed by 2 metre high wrought-iron railings. This automatically provides a very high deterrent factor against any possible break-ins and tends to ensure a level of security rarely associated with lock-up garages.

In addition, many of our existing tenants live within walking distance of the garages enabling them to visit their garage on a regular basis. This means that there are frequently people going in and out of their garages, again actively dissuading any people who have no business being there.

24/7 Access

One of the great advantages of our storage units is that our tenants have access to their belongings at all times of the day or night.

Storage companies, on the other hand, would typically only allow you to have access to your possessions between 8am and 8pm during the week. At weekends & bank holidays, access to your belongings would normally be limited even further. Some storage companies even require you to phone up in advance and make an appointment to access your belongings.

Ease Of Access

Being originally designed for keeping cars in, access to our lock-up garages/storage units is second to none. A major benefit of this is that you can drive right up to your storage unit and unload/pick up your possessions with the minimal amount of carrying of heavy boxes and awkward loads etc..., etc... In addition, due to the size of the garage door opening, you are not having to struggle through narrow doorways whilst transporting your belongings into your storage space.

Convenience

Being located in residential areas within the Manchester area ensures that our lock-up garages are conveniently placed to enable you to just pop by whilst you are out and about. Storage companies, by contrast, are normally situated within industrial parks. This tends to make them less convenient as you may have to make a specific journey to access your possessions. In addition, these places can be quite eerie & desolate, particularly at night and during the weekend.

Well Maintained

As detailed on our Home page, the lock-up garages/storage units which we have for rent are clean, tidy and very well maintained. For example, all of the garage roofs at our Oldfield Brow site were recently replaced with brand new, plastic-coated steel roofs, our garages at Timperley were completely revamped during the winter of 2011/2012, whilst our Stalybridge and Warrington sites boast larger than average, very recently built garages. Finally, where appropriate, we try and ensure that all of our garages are repainted on a regular basis.

Our lock-up garages are suitable for everyone & anyone. In the past we have had a whole range of different types of tenants ranging from architects, builders, carpet fitters, company directors, engineers, gardeners, joiners, plumbers, solicitors, etc..., etc...
